GRIN

Story Behind

The name of the application is Grin, which means to laugh out loud freely, reflecting the design rationale of this app. It aims to provide a space where users can freely listen to the music they love and feel happy and at peace.

This app is designed for a target audience aged 16 to 40. I chose purple as the theme color to create a mysterious and attractive atmosphere.

Once users open the application and log in, music recommended for them will start playing. They can swipe left or click on the sad face to indicate they do not like a song, or swipe right or click on the heart icon to like a song. Users can also pause or go back to the previous song. When they find a song they like, it will be automatically added to their playlist, and they can name that playlist.

Another feature of the application is the option to log in with their Facebook or Snapchat account or to log in anonymously. If the user logs in with their Facebook or Snapchat account, they will have a public account that allows them to add friends, and their playlists and song comments will be visible to other users with similar music preferences. However, if they log in anonymously, their account will be private, and everything that happens in the application will only be visible to them.

User Research

User research was conducted through interviews with people who fit the characteristics of Grin's target audience. The questions are included in the appendix. In conclusion, people from the target audience group are looking for an application that fits their preferences, recommending songs based on their likes instead of the majority's preferences. Furthermore, they want an application that provides a private space to better enjoy their music time. Interviewees were shown the interface design PDF and their responses were compiled into an Excel file, Code_A3.

It was found that our target audience is willing to download Grin and are attracted by its design and concept. However, they expressed concerns about personal privacy and the safety of their data. Users also worried about how many music tracks Grin could secure rights to play to ensure it functions well as a music application, and about the sound quality Grin can offer. These issues need to be addressed after the design of the interface and functions is completed.
